The horns effect states that people who are perceived as less attractive are more associated with poor personal qualities and are therefore seen in a less favorable way than more attractive individuals.
Unfortunately both the ‘halo effect’ and the ‘horns effect’ may be the determinant factors (sometimes the most important) to succeed in an interview or otherwise.
In an interview, as you enter the room and you are perceived as attractive, the interviewers will start unconsciously to think favorably about you. As the interview progresses, they may start to search for good qualities so to confirm their initial favorable assumptions.

This may mean that you may score better in an interview than you deserve.
If you are not so attractive the opposite may happen.
Unfortunately in this case, as you enter the room and you are perceived as unattractive, the interviewers will unconsciously start to think in an unfavorable way about you. As the interview progresses, they may start to search for poor qualities in you so to confirm their initial bad assumptions.
This may mean that you score lower in the interview than you deserve.
Of course professional interviewers are aware of both the halo effect and the horns effect and they try to neutralize them by trying to be neutral as far as they can, but the tendency is still there.
The halo effect and the horns effect make people judge us in a somehow distorted manner unconsciously.
The more you are good looking the more favorable you are looked at, and the more you are bad-looking the more you are looked in an unfavorable way.
Of course this applies also in our everyday lives.
